Sarah Palin For U.S. Senate In Arizona?

State Democrats last week pounced on rumors that Sarah Palin may be looking at Arizona either as a base for a presidential campaign or for a possible U.S. Senate bid.

The Arizona Democratic Party wasted no time in responding to the speculation by shooting off a fundraising appeal to supporters.

Congressman Jeff Flake is the only declared candidate for the Senate seat, however, former TV pitchman J.D. Hayworth, Congressman Trent Franks, and several other local GOPers have expressed an interest in the seat.

Palin’s capable of raising a lot of money, which spells trouble for other Republicans looking to run. Hayworth and Franks would likely bow out.

If Palin does parachute into Arizona, either as a presidential candidate or a Senate one (she couldn’t run for both simultaneously), she won’t necessarily find the state to be friendly territory. A recent statewide automated poll of 599 Arizona voters indicated that a whopping 57 percent of respondents have an unfavorable opinion of her, compared with 39 percent who reported a favorable opinion. Four percent weren’t sure.
