Here is Ford O’Connell’s response to today’s Politico “The Arena” question, “Kumbaya Congress a sham?”:
Contrary to popular belief, the State of the Union is a time for political civility. For the past decade, members and attendees have used it for grandstanding purposes, which in the end has accomplished nothing more than to make them look like a bunch of petulant little children. Think Nancy Pelosi not standing for President George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton rolling her eyes or Justice Samuel Alito mouthing “not true.”
Regardless of what is said tonight, the poor behavior has to stop. America is mired in turbulent times, and our nation needs real solutions to its ever-growing list of problems. So when our president speaks tonight, Congress and the other members in attendance need to grow up and act like adults for once.
