Politico: 10 House Races To Watch In 2012

The 2012 congressional elections are 21 months away, but the House landscape is already beginning to take shape. Members are raising money, the candidate recruiting process is under way, and the party committees are busy torching the opposition in press releases.

Even at this early stage, the top targets and most vulnerable members are becoming clear. Most of them, according to POLITICO’s debut list of the Top 10 most competitive House races, are freshman legislators.

Some of them make the list because they barely squeaked into office in November by the slightest of margins. Others are sitting in difficult-to-hold districts or find themselves endangered because they stand to be adversely affected in the upcoming round of redistricting. They are as follows:

1. Florida’s 25th District: Rep. David Rivera (R)

2. Indiana’s 2nd District: Rep. Joe Donnelly (D)

3. Iowa’s 3rd District: Rep. Leonard Boswell (D)

4. Florida’s 22nd District: Rep. Allen West (R)

5. Utah’s 2nd District: Rep. Jim Matheson (D)

6. Minnesota’s 8th District: Rep. Chip Cravaack (R)

7. Illinois’s 10th District: Rep. Robert Dold (R)

8. Texas’s 27th District:Rep. Blake Farenthold (R)

9. New York’s 25th District: Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R)

10. Illinois’s 8th District: Rep. Joe Walsh (R)
