O’Connell’s Advice To Congressional Freshman: “Don’t Act Like Alan Grayson!”

Here is CivicForumPac Chairman Ford O’Connell’s response to today’s Politico Arena question, “What’s your advice for the freshmen of the 112th Congress?”

Don’t act like former Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.)!

Our country faces troubling times, and unchecked grandstanding by individual members only lessens our chances of returning to prosperity. You have been sent to Washington to do a job – make the government work to better the lives of your constituents. The allures of Beltway life often lead to inflated egos, but you cannot forget that you are here to serve the will of the voters. Your job is not to feed an insatiable quest for the limelight by spewing ridiculous opinions at every turn, as if you were a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars.” Take a page from Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s playbook; gain the respect of your colleagues and you will succeed in Washington and with your constituents back home. If you don’t, you will be sent packing just like Grayson.
