Ford O’Connell On Obama’s Post-Bin Laden Bump At Politico’s Arena

Nothing should diminish from the killing of Osama bin Laden; it was a great achievement by our military, the intelligence community and President Obama. It will certainly help President Obama’s reelection chances from a national security and international relations standpoint.

Right now President Obama has better than a 60 percent chance of being reelected in 2012, but his current bump could be short-lived. Election Day 2012 is a long way off, and a lot can happen between now and then.

The top issues for the American public still remain jobs, the economy, rising gasoline prices and our escalating debt. If by Election Day 2012, Americans are standing in a soup line because they are flat broke and can’t make ends meet, they may not care at the end of the day that they are safe from bin Laden.
