Somewhere Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman are quietly giving themselves self-congratulatory golf claps. Unfortunately for the GOP, Mitch Daniels needed to be part of the presidential conversation – not because he would have won the nomination – but because Mr. Daniels would have added depth to the field, given our nation’s fiscal woes.
Contrary to the media buzz, even without Daniels, this is not a weak presidential field. Eventually GOP primary voters will rally behind one of them. If the 2012 Republican field is lacking anything, it is a conservative from the Sunbelt with executive experience.
