Team Obama is once again trying to backdoor the eventual GOP presidential nominee in Virginia and North Carolina. The Obama brain trust is smart to make a play for both states in hopes of negating the electoral significance of Florida and Ohio in 2012.
A well-executed plan by Team Obama combined with a weak campaign effort by John McCain allowed Obama to skate by in the Tar Heel State in 2008. Don’t expect that to happen again in 2012, regardless of who the GOP nominee is.
The Commonwealth of Virginia is a different story. Demographics in the northern and eastern parts of the state coupled with get-out-the-vote logistical issues in the southern and western parts of the state make this more difficult for the eventual GOP nominee, but right now it looks like Obama will be hard-pressed to score a 2012 victory in Virginia as well.
