At 49 years of age, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made the right decision. Christie will likely have other opportunities at becoming the GOP presidential nominee, especially if he continues his positive work in the Garden State.
There are two distinct winners today. The first is the New Jersey Republican Party. If Christie had thrown his hat in for the GOP presidential nomination and flopped, Cory Booker, a very talented Democrat, would have likely seized on it in an effort to unseat Christie in 2013. And a Christie reelection loss could be devastating to Garden State Republicans as they work to bring about positive reforms in a union-run, blue state.
Todayâs other winner is Mitt Romney, who has been given a second opportunity to solidify the establishment Republican mantle. The question for Romney is: Can he capitalize on Christieâs presidential no-go?
