Well, not exactly mauled in the literal sense.
With none other than Sarah Palin backing her opponent, incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski may soon find herself at the losing end of a bitter primary battle in Alaska. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Murkowski trailed the political upstart Joe Miller by approximately 1900 votes early this morning. Votes will continue to be tallied as the week progresses, and some 16,000 absentee ballots will eventually be examined.
It now seems plausible that Murkowski’s appointment by her father may not have been the best course of action. Poking the largest proverbial bear, it seems that the Murkowski family decided to participate in good old-fashioned nepotism by passing up the queen of the Mama Grizzlies herself for that very seat. It is now apparent that not unlike elephants, Grizzlies, especially the fairer sex, also maintain impressive memories particularly well suited to the political arena.
