Today, Alex Pappas continued his review of Congressional races where tea parties may have an impact. Pappas believes there are four House of Representative races that tea partiers may influence:
Virginia-5. Freshman Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) was a late switch on health care and many believe that could cost him his seat.
Michigan-1. Rep. Bart Stupak’s (D-MI) last second switch on health care made him an immediate tea party enemy. As a result, his Republican challenger Dan Benishek received an influx of donations. Stupak has since announced his retirement, making this seat a tossup.
Florida-8. Outspoken Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) currently holds this seat and an enormous war chest. Grayson’s ultra liberal record and aggressive tactics have made him an enemy of tea partiers. Peg Dunmire is running as a third party candidate on the tea party ticket, which could steal votes from the Republican candidate.
Alabama-5. Tea partiers aren’t very happy with party switcher Rep. Parker Griffith (R-AL). Griffith was elected in 2008 as a democrat but switched to the Republican Party. Griffith will face two Republican challengers in August.
